Government Official States Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Staff Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

A defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the possible security risks associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and personnel have been advised to refrain from talking about classified information in all cars.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recently aired interview on LBC, a defence minister commented on claims that MoD officials have been instructed not to discuss classified material while travelling in Chinese cars.

He said that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that security is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret classification in any car, because of the growing risks of eavesdropping that exist in every single automobile, to only have those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could allow the Chinese government to switch off buses and cause chaos to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing lasers at RAF pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This broader security situation highlights the significance of strong protocols and vigilance in all areas of official activities, from vehicle use to communication habits.
